An unexpected turn of events.

December was a crazy month. Finals were the easy part haha. I did really well, and the big, scary final was similar to the boards I passed! So, I am a happy camper about that one. Right after that one was done I called my mom to get an update on my dad. He had been feeling like his heart was not working when he would exercise, so John Day was able to get him into a stress test. He failed the stress test due to his lowering B/P with more cardiac load put on. Then, he went in for an angiogram to get a few stents put in. He came back sooner than we were thinking and the doctor said there was so much blockage that they were unable to place any stents and that was going to have to get a quadruple to quintuple bypass. We were so shocked! We knew that he had coronary artery disease in his family, but we were not expecting something so drastic.

So the next 5 days or so, I was at the hospital a lot. And, it was hard. The day of the surgery was the most emotionally draining day. Julie and I just sat at the hospital all day. We were only allowed 2 visitors for the whole stay at the hospital and so I got to be one of the caretakers. It was really weird being on this side of things. The surgery ended up going well, but man. After I found out he was okay, I broke down. I can't describe the amount of relief that I had that he was okay. Seeing him in the ICU intubated was also difficult. It definitely humbled me to be a better Respiratory Therapist. And, as I watched people take care of my dad, I saw people who were nice and not so warm and fuzzy...I am learning that it is easy to be kind. Over the next few days, he did extremely well.

He slowly got things taken out and his color came back. Then, the next thing we knew he was home. But, it was a LONG few days. Even writing about it, I feel like it was a long time ago. It just humbles me to be grateful for who you have in your life. Talk about deepening my testimony that God is real. I have never felt closer to him than in those days at the hospital. My goal this year is to recognize he really is in all things.

That felt like most of my December. We have done all the other fun festivities, some have definitely been modified because of COVID. But, I have mostly just been so happy to spend time with the people I care about. We had a ton of fun Christmas activities.

I think my favorite day was obviously Christmas. But, it was really sweet to see the reactions of my mom and Nancy opening up their quilts! It was so so cute! They both cried lol. I think they really appreciated a thoughtful gift though. Christmas was a great day...nothing but laying around and having lots of really awesome people in our lives :)

It was a great month.
